Floods caused frequent disasters and the desperate population asked the authorities for help. Thus was born the Mercadante Forest, the only completely artificial forest in Italy, for the water defense of the territory. An integral part of the Alta Murgia National Park, today it is the favorite destination for trekking lovers and those who want to enjoy the cool shelter of the trees during a summer day.
